Russia: a Catholic digital ecosystem “in which everyone can find the universal Church” about to be launched

In the Russian dioceses, people are working at a project for a “digital ecosystem” “designed to bring together multiple news resources under one single brand, which together can portray the digital face of the Church”. It is a journey that has been carried out for six months now by Anna Garanova and Anastasia Bozio, who presented it a few days ago in St Petersburg at the “Catholic Media Summer School” (11-14 June), as reported on the website of the Archdiocese of Moscow and St Petersburg. The heart of the ecosystem will be ruscatholic.org, a portal that has been up and running since 2014, along with YaKatolik, an app launched in May 2025. These two digital resources will walk at the same pace, because of the efforts made by a wide network of volunteers and content creators. “Be joined to join” is the motto of the merger project described by the two webmasters, who plan to develop a photo, video and audio hosting service, a digital library, and an AI-based assistant, trained on ecclesiastic documents and targeted at a Russian-speaking audience. Such multimedia portal will also provide news feeds, tips on cultural and spiritual events, news about the Catholic Church and faith, and a calendar of Saints. Such ecosystem will also help develop a vibrant “community” in a country in which Catholics are geographically scattered. A challenge that will have to be faced is the training of a team of supervisors, “willing to cooperate to build this wide digital temple in which everyone can find the universal Church as the living Body of Christ”.
