Poland: on Sunday 3rd May, the Bishops will entrust the country to the protection of Our Lady of Czestochowa

Next Sunday, 3rd May, at Jasna Gora (Czestochowa), the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, mgr. Stanislaw Gadecki, in the solemn Act of Entrustment of Poland to the Virgin, will implore “salvation for Poland in these difficult days”. In addition, the prelate will mention the entrustment to Our Lady of Fatima by the Portuguese Bishops. The spokesman of the Bishops’ Conference, don Pawel Rytel-Andrianik, pointed out to SIR that, “in the time of coronavirus, many other countries have been entrusted to the protection of Mary too” and recalls that John Paul II “entrusted Poland to Our Lady of Jasna Gora during his first trip in his homeland in 1979”. Over the last 100 years, the Polish Bishops have repeatedly placed the country under the protection of the Madonna, whose effigy is held in the shrine of Czestochowa: in 1920 when confronted with the invasion of the country by the Bolshevik troops, in 1946, in 1956, and ten years later in 1966, as well as on 3rd May 2016, to coincide with the celebrations for the 1050th anniversary of the Christianisation of Poland.
