United Kingdom: £92 million for repairs and restoration of places of worship. Bishops’ Conference relays call for expressions of interest

Calls for expressions of interest have been published for the Places of Worship Fund, a £92 million fund launched by the UK Government in January to help support urgent repairs and essential improvements to active places of worship. Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and delivered by Historic England, the public body responsible for the protection of historic heritage, the fund will have a budget of £23 million per annum over a four-year period. The website of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, which informed about the opening of the call for expressions of interest, explains that grants ranging from £10,000 to £1,000,000 will be awarded for works aimed at keeping buildings safe, open and accessible to the public. Any listed place of worship in England can apply, of any faith or denomination, provided it is an active place of worship. Applications must demonstrate that the place is used for worship at least 6 times per year, that it has not been converted to another use, and that the works are necessary, deliverable and aligned with the fund’s requirements.
