The Spanish association of Catholic doctors “Jérôme Lejeune” will be holding its second national congress at the Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid on 6 and 7 February. The congress is entitled: “At the service of life: science, conscience, and medical vocation”. The organisation informs in a press release that “after the success of the first national meeting, this second congress will once again bring together doctors and healthcare professionals with the aim of exploring the scientific, ethical, and vocational foundations of medical practice, focusing on the defence of human life, professional excellence, and the conscientious commitment of doctors”. The congress is intended to be a space for training, reflection, and dialogue, “where some of the major challenges in today’s medicine will be addressed from a rigorous scientific perspective and from a Christian anthropological perspective, promoting a fully humane medical practice at the service of the patient”, the statement reads. “The medical vocation cannot be understood without service to life in all its stages”. Over the two days, there will be conferences, round tables, and testimonials with the participation of medical specialists, bioethics experts, and professionals of recognised national and international reputation. Among the topics to be addressed are the conciliation between maternity, family life and the practice of medicine, the relationship between doctor and patient, the role of faith in clinical practice, and the defence of life in particularly vulnerable contexts.
