Council of Europe-EESC: conference on “Social rights: building social justice and democratic stability” in Brussels tomorrow

“Social rights: building social justice and democratic stability” is the subject of a joint event organized by the Council of Europe and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) with guests such as political and civil-society leaders, youth movements and international organisations. The event, which will be held in the EESC premises in Brussels on Thursday, June 5th, wants to explore four interconnected dimensions of social rights: the role of international mechanisms in fostering social rights, systemic inequalities, protection of social rights to strengthen democratic resilience, the role of social rights in the achievement of sustainable development goals. Each topic will be discussed at a work session with guests such as leaders of European institutions, the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations, youth organisations, civil society and social partners. The event is part of the path of preparation for the second United Nations World Social Summit (Doha, November 2025) and its goal, as explained by the organisers, is “to align European efforts with global sustainable development and democratic stability goals through partnerships and innovative strategies”. The event may be live streamed from the Council of Europe’s website.
