Pope Francis: Mgr Colombo (Argentine bishops), “he taught us to serve the poor and to build peace”

“The Pope has been able to enhance the service of religions to the cause of the poor and the little ones. This is part of a legacy that we do not want to forget, that we want to engrave in our hearts”, said Mgr Marcelo Colombo, Archbishop of Mendoza and President of the Argentine Bishops’ Conference, as he concluded the interreligious prayer meeting for the suffrage of Pope Francis, held at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Buenos Aires last night. Representatives of the Catholic, Orthodox and Evangelical Churches, and of the Jewish and Islamic communities were present, alongside representatives of the national and local government. “I would like to insist – Mgr Colombo added – on his service to the sublime cause of peace: a peace without walls or divisions, founded on respect between peoples, cultures and roots. I would like to remember his call to safeguard our common home, which God has placed in our hands for the good of all”. The prelate then invited those present to place a hand over their hearts for a moment of silent prayer: “We all have something to thank God for the life of Francis. Something we want to keep as a living memory among us”.
