“Celebrating the mystery of Creation means recognising the beauty of life and the gift that God has made to mankind”. This is the intention behind the proposal made by the Bishops’ Conference of Japan, endorsing the introduction of a “Day of the Mystery of Creation” in the universal liturgical calendar. The initiative was born at ecumenical level at the resolve of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) to celebrate the memory of Creation on September 1st every year. During the ecumenical seminar “The Feast of Creation and the Mystery of Creation” held in Assisi on March 16th 2024, the Christian Church leaders insisted that “protecting Creation is a commitment shared by all communities of faith”. The Bishops’ Conference of Japan endorsed the request to officially introduce the new Feast in the Catholic Church. The text will be submitted to the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments for a final assessment.
