Austria: St. Pölten, Caritas Employment Centre, opportunities for young people and persons with mental disabilities

During its campaign for professional inclusion in April, Caritas St. Pölten has drawn attention to the difficult situation of young people and people with disabilities in the labour market. During an Open Day event, the Caritas Centre for Employment and Career Guidance (BBO) presented several services that help people with mental health conditions to prepare for a return to work in various commercial and professional settings. For 28 years, Caritas St. Pölten’s Professional Inclusion Programme has been informing, advising and supporting young people in difficult life situations and people with disabilities through the Career and Vocational Guidance project and the Vocational Training Assistance Network (NEBA). The latter provides counselling to young people, assistance in vocational training and at work, and job coaching. Young people and adults are supported in choosing a career, in accessing the labour market as well as in the labour market. This – the diocesan Caritas explained – boosts their participation in society. “Companies do benefit from the BBO’s operational services, which range from information and counselling to direct support within the company”. These services are funded by local professional organisations and the state of Lower Austria. According to a press release, Caritas promotes on-the-job training as well as socio-educational support and training.
