Terrorism: European Union remembers victims of all attacks in Madrid

Monday 11 March will be the EU Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism, aimed at commemorating all victims of terrorist violence throughout the world and in the European Union. The official celebration of this 20th edition will take place in Madrid on Monday morning in the presence of the King and Queen of Spain and of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The event is jointly organised by the European Commission and Spain, together with the working group on remembrance of victims of terrorism (VOT) of the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN). Vice-President Margaritis Schinas and Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson will represent the European Commission. The Day is linked to the attacks of 11 March 2004 in the Spanish capital which killed 192 people and injured over 2,000. There have been numerous terrorist attacks of various kinds, even in recent years. These include the attacks in London, Oslo and Utoya, Paris, Brussels, Nice, Berlin, Manchester, Strasbourg, and Barcelona.
