Germany: Bishops’ Spring Plenary Assembly in Augsburg. Future of democracy, Synod and Jubilee on the agenda

The Spring General Assembly of the German Bishops’ Conference (DBK) will take place in Augsburg from 19 to 22 February. 61 members of the German Bishops’ Conference will attend it under the leadership of its President, Bishop Georg Bätzing of Limburg. The meeting will take place at the Haus Sankt Ulrich in Augsburg. The discussions will focus on issues relating to the future of democracy in the 2024 election year as well as on the findings of the Church Membership Survey (KMU) published in November last year. In addition, the DBK will further discuss the Church’s Synodal Journey in Germany and the World Synod in Rome, whose second part is scheduled to take place in October 2024. Other themes to be addressed by the General Assembly include the Holy Year 2025 and the “Week for Life”. Other topics include a reflection on the importance of the 13th international pilgrimage of clerics in the summer of 2024: the Auxiliary Bishop of Osnabrück, Mgr Johannes Wübbe, President of the Youth Commission of the German Bishops’ Conference, will present the event that will take place under the motto “With You”. Priests from all over Europe will once again go on a pilgrimage to Rome to meet the Pope. Approximately 35,000 participants are expected to take part from Germany. This makes the pilgrimage one of the largest youth pastoral events of the Church in Germany.
