Spain: International Day of Persons with Disabilities. “Tú y yo somos Iglesia”

“Tú y yo somos Iglesia” (You and I Are Church): under this slogan, the Disability Division of the Spanish Episcopal Commission for evangelisation, catechesis and catechumenate is launching a campaign to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is held on December 3rd. This is explained by mgr. Román Casanova, the bishop in charge of such Division, by pointing out that the Church means to join this Day and proactively take part in it “by enlightening and sharing life, because there are many people with disabilities who belong to the Church, to the ecclesial ‘we’ that walks together”. Archbishop Casanova claims that “You and I Are Church” is not a slogan like any other, it “is a source of pride and joy even for people with disabilities, who are a lively part of the Church, who are the recipients and conveyors of the Good News of the Gospel”. In addition, on such Day the Spanish Church wants to be close to these people’s pain to encourage them “to overcome all the challenges and misunderstandings that disability often carries along”.
