EU Parliament: Metsola condemns Iran’s acts of war. “Solidarity with the people of Cyprus”

(Strasbourg) In the opening statement she gave at the plenary session in Strasbourg, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, briefly spoke of the situation in the Middle East. “The European Parliament – she said – will continue to push for people in Iran to live in liberty and to choose their own destiny”. Then, she decried Iran’s acts of war against its neighbouring countries and against Cyprus (no mention, instead, of USA’s and Israel’s acts of war against Iran). “People in Cyprus are concerned”, Metsola said, about Iran’s attacks, “but – she said, speaking to Cypriots – you are not and will never be alone. Europe stands firm and united for Cyprus. The security of Cyprus is the security of Europe”. Then, she lingered on remembering the suffering, the violence, the tortures and the killings of Iran’s regime in the last 47 years. Then, other MEPs gave speeches denouncing USA’s and Israel’s acts of war, not authorised by the UN, that claimed lives among the Iranian people.
