“Lord, I live in the tomb and you want to lift me up”: it is on this statement that cardinal Ladislav Nemet, Archbishop of Belgrade, lingers in his Easter message, decrying life centred on oneself, on one’s own comfort, on one’s own truths and interests. Cardinal Ladislav Nemet shared the text at a meeting with the media. He condemns “putting my own power, my own country always first, even at the cost of dozens of thousands of people killed, especially children, women and old people”. Cardinal Ladislav Nemet stated that “people’s dignity, the wish of the majority for a peaceful life are not taken into account”, but “profit and one’s own will prevail at all costs”. “The story of Easter is the tragedy of any human life: sickness, pain, misunderstanding and, in all this, the fight for faith in Jesus”. Nemet wishes for an Easter as “a time of forgiveness”, “a time of a fight for peace that does not come on its own but that is built, and you need to fight for it”. “Jesus – he says –, the King of Peace that wants to reconcile the world in the embrace of the Father and pull down every wall that separates us from God and from our neighbours, shows us the way”.
