Eurobarometer: Europeans regard the fight against climate change as a priority and support renewable energy sources

“A large majority of Europeans believe climate change is a serious problem (85%)”: this has been found by a new Eurobarometer survey published earlier today. 8 respondents out of 10 (81%) support the EU goal of reaching climate neutrality by 2050. In economic terms, over three quarters (77%) of Europeans agree that the cost of damage induced by climate change is much higher than the investments required for transition to a net-zero economy. “More than eight in ten respondents (85%) agreed that acting on climate change would improve public health and overall quality of life”. Likewise, a similar number (83%) agree that “better preparation for climate impacts would enhance everyday wellbeing for the EU population”. Nearly nine Europeans out of ten (88%) think it would be important for the EU to take measures to increase renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency. Three quarters (75%) believe that reducing imports of fossil fuels will increase energy security and will deliver economic benefits to the EU. The Eurobarometer survey on climate change was conducted between 18th February and 10th March 2025 and covered – as explained by Eurobarometer – different social and demographic target groups in all of the 27 member states of the EU.
