The Digital Citizenship Education Forum “Let’s Act Now” – the flagship event of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025 promoted by the Council of Europe – will start tomorrow at the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg. More than 200 participants – policymakers, educators, students, civil society representatives and tech innovators – from over 30 countries are expected to discuss the promotion of democratic participation, human rights and well-being in the digital era. The work will be opened by Mevan Babakar (Google). A debate will follow on “A New Democratic Pact: how digital citizenship education can help foster democracy in digital era?”. The programme includes ten sessions on the main challenges and opportunities of digital citizenship education, including youth-led initiatives, the accountability of digital platforms, combating disinformation and digital inclusion. In the afternoon, the Council of Europe’s Guide to Citizenship Education will be presented along with innovative educational tools and learning platforms. On the second and final day of the event, 28 May, participants will actively contribute to setting the 2027-2031 roadmap for digital citizenship education in Europe.
