India: Bishops, “Pilgrims of Hope” published to chart the way towards a Synodal Church

“This final document offers a clear roadmap to transform our local Churches into truly synodal communities, in line with the vision of Pope Francis”. Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) and of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), said this as he presented the printed edition of “Pilgrims of Hope: Discerning the Synodal Path” in Benaulim, Goa. The launch took place during the national meeting of Basilica Rectors on 23 April. The document, published on 19 March, is the result of a broad listening and discernment process that has involved lay and religious people, the clergy and bishops, and has culminated in the Plenary Assembly in Bhubaneswar (28 January to 4 February). Sixteen themes are proposed for reflection and action: faith formation, children, family, youth, laity, basic ecclesial communities, migrants, refugees, the socially excluded, Dalits, tribals, women, gender justice, poverty, climate care, digital technology, social media and peacebuilding. The document integrates with the pastoral plan “Journeying Towards a Synodal Church – Mission 2033”. The CCBI invites the faithful to become “true pilgrims of hope”, guided by the Spirit on the synodal path.
