Denmark: Mgr Kozon, Jubilee “eventful year and opportunity for many forms of celebration”

“The Jubilee year is coming to an end. It was an eventful year and an opportunity for many forms of celebration”, the Bishop of Copenhagen, Czeslaw Kozon, said in his letter to the Danish faithful today, announcing the end of this Holy Year. The events experienced – pilgrimages to Rome, local pilgrimages within the diocese, and many other initiatives – were “an opportunity to immerse oneself in the faith and to mobilise hope, also in the light of the many violent events that we hear about almost every day from different regions of the world”. It was also the year of the election of the new Pope who is himself “a sign of hope,” the bishop went on to write. As already indicated by Pope Francis, the Jubilee Year will end with the Feast of the Epiphany on 6 January 2026, but in the local Churches, the closing will be on the feast of the Holy Family on Sunday, 28 December. For the Danish Diocese, the closing event will be the 10am Mass in the cathedral, with no additional special celebrations in the five churches designated as pilgrimage churches during the Jubilee Year.
