For the first time in 26 years, the faithful of Trnjanska Savica in Zagreb feel close to the possibility of having their own church. This is what emerged during a dedicated forum that was recently held in the neighbourhood of the Croatian capital, following the presentation of the general urban plan that identifies a site for the construction of the place of worship. The parish is dedicated to Blessed Alojzije Stepinac. “For the Eucharist, we gather in the pastoral centre located in a residential building, while on Sundays, we meet in the primary school”, explained parish priest Fr Antun Vukmanic. In his opinion, “despite the difficulties, the parish functions surprisingly well and there is not enough space to accommodate the faithful”. The forum was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Zagreb and Architect Luka Korlaet and the church designer, Robert Krizniak, who answered the questions of the faithful. The President of the Savica Association, Ivana Bandov, stressed that “this forum represents a further attempt to resolve the situation the faithful of Savica have been in for 26 years. With these encouraging signs, we hope to celebrate the feast of Saint Alojzije very soon”.
