As part of World Mission Day which will be held on Sunday 19th October, the Spanish Episcopal Conference posted on its webpage updated figures about the Iberian Church’s contribution to the Pontifical Mission Societies. The published figures suggest that in 2024 Spain, with 10,351,613.49 euros raised, is the second largest donor country for Church missions, after the United States. Such amount was used to fund hundreds of projects in the five continents all through 2025. In addition, Spain is one of the countries with the highest number of missionaries working all over the world, coming from 377 congregations and organisations in communion with the Catholic Church. 9,648 Spanish missionaries are recorded in the databanks of the Pontifical Mission Societies. 5,624 of them are currently in lands of mission, while 4,024 are in Spain, where they cooperate “remotely” in missionary activities or are waiting for a new destination. Moreover, 53% of Spanish missionaries are women and 47% are men, while the country with the highest number of Iberian missionaries turns out to be Peru (524). One of the most interesting events organised in Spain for this year’s World Mission Day is “El Domund al descubierto” (Mission Sunday into the open), an exhibition set up in Valencia till the end of October.
