The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Iceland “began in a new way” on Saturday, 18 January, with an event for young people that took place at the Church of Breiðholt in Reykjavik. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland announced in this way the start of the Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity on its website, describing how “young people of different Christian denominations came together to pray, give praise, read the Scriptures and bear witness”. “Together in one Spirit” was the title of the afternoon of prayer, singing and sharing, which ended with a soup dinner and conversations. The Week of Prayer in Iceland is organised by the Cooperation Committee of Christian Religious Communities (the National Church, the Adventist Church, the Pentecostal Church of Philadelphia, the Church of Bethany, the Icelandic Church of Christ, the Catholic Church, the Independent Church, the Orthodox Church, the International Church, and the Salvation Army). In the Icelandic capital, as well as in the town of Akureyri, there will be a celebration every day of this week in a different church.
