EU Commission: 2027 budget set at €200 billion for “established political priorities”

Today, the European Commission has proposed to set the 2027 annual EU budget at €200 billion in commitments. This is the last draft budget of the EU’s 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework. It is a budget that bears the burden of “critical developments over the past years”, the Commission says in a statement, but it guarantees resources “for established EU political priorities”. Among the budget headings, €21,901.5 billion is allocated to the “Single Market, Innovation and Digital”; €75,761.2 billion goes to “Cohesion, Resilience and Values”; €57,235.5 billion is allocated to “Natural Resources and Environment”; and €5.789.3 billion will go to “Migration and Border Management”. Also, 3,066.4 billion is earmarked for “Security and Defence” and 15,467.7 billion for “Neighbourhood and the World”. The commitment for Ukraine remains firm with a support loan of €1.150 billion included in the budget. The annual budget for 2027 will have to be formally adopted by the European Parliament and the Council by the end of 2026.
