Germany: fundraising for churches in Central and Eastern Europe at Pentecost. “Building bridges across borders”

The proceeds from the Pentecost Sunday collection that will be taken up in German churches on 24 May will be entirely donated to aid the work of Renovabis, an organisation of the German Catholic Church that has been working for thirty years to support Catholics and their communities in Eastern Europe. Held annually, the Pentecost campaign 2026 is entitled “Growing together. So that Europe remains humane”. In their invitation to donate, the bishops explain that many countries in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe “face major challenges, such as political polarisation, economic insecurity, and social tensions”, while “acts of violence, war, and displacement are putting a strain on social cohesion”. Thus, Eastern European Churches seek to intervene through social welfare, educational programmes, reconciliation initiatives and the promotion of interreligious dialogue, to “build bridges across divisions and borders”. This is the fruit of the gifts of the Spirit that “foster community”.
