In its AccelerateEU package, the European Commission proposes a number of actions, including: refilling gas storages and oil stocks, oil production, emergency measures to ensure the availability of jet fuel and diesel, the establishment of a new fuel observatory, temporary measures to protect consumers and industry; as well as actions to accelerate the shift to homegrown clean energy and to replace oil, gas, and fossil fuels for transport. For example, by the summer, the Commission will present an Electrification Action Plan. “It will include an ambitious electrification target and measures to remove barriers to the electrification of the industrial, transport and building sectors”. Teresa Ribera, Vice-President of the Commission for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, said: “There is no alternative to the Green Deal when it comes to security and competitiveness. Once again, citizens and businesses are paying the price of our dependency. This communication aims at reinforcing EU coordination and protect the most vulnerable while accelerating deployment of homegrown clean energy and electrification to make a real and lasting difference”.
