Spain: Madrid, over 5 thousand volunteers for Leo XIV’s visitation. 67% of them are women

The Archdiocese of Madrid is getting ready for Pope Leo XIV’s visitation, as it has already exceeded the number of 5,124 volunteers who have signed in on the platform madrid.conelpapa.es. A response that reflects the liveliness of the Diocese: devotees from 372 parishes, 113 religious congregations and 124 movements, associations and groups will be taking part, as posted on the web page of Madrid’s Archdiocese. As to services, 1,131 volunteers will take care of welcoming the pilgrims, “a service that is essential for the visitation to be a true experience of an open, supportive Church”, the web page goes on. Another 760 volunteers will be involved in the preparation and closing of the event. Participation has been wide and diversified by age groups: 1,161 volunteers are aged 18 to 35, 1,213 are aged 36 to 65, and 147 are over 65 years old. Women’s participation is noteworthy too, as it accounts for 67% of the total number of volunteers versus 33% of men. Volunteers’ registrations started on March 23rd on the platform madrid.conelpapa.es and will be open until April 17th, as part of the general event-organisation programme.
