Spain: Diocese of Madrid, Presbyterian Assembly. 1,100 priests discussing topical issues and challenges of the mission

Today, Monday 9th and tomorrow, Tuesday 10th February, the Pablo VI Auditorium in Madrid is hosting “Convivium”, the Presbyterian Assembly convened by card. José Cobo to reflect on the Presbyterian ministry and the pastoral needs and challenges that affect the Spanish capital nowadays. According to the information posted on the webpage of Madrid’s Diocese, over 1,100 diocesan priests are attending the Assembly; overall, 1,200 people have registered to deal with a multitude of issues, which will be discussed by 28 workgroups. Each focus group will be led by a moderator. The most outstanding issues that will be up for discussion include the challenge of poverty in Madrid, the affective life of the priest, the Presbyterian role in times of synodality, the contribution made by the ministry to the migration emergency, apostolic spirituality, the priest’s identity in a secularised society, pastoral work in the digital and technological transition, parishes and new areas for evangelisation, the rising number of young people interested in faith. In addition, two general insights on the mission and the challenges of priesthood in today’s Madrid will be held with card. Francisco Javier Bustillo and mgr. Luis Marín de San Martín, undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops.
