Tomorrow, 30 October, will mark the start of a new round of DiscoverEU, an action of the Erasmus+ programme that offers 18-year-olds residing in one of the EU Member States, or third countries associated to the programme, the opportunity to get a pass to “travel and explore Europe’s diversity, learn about its cultural heritage and history, and connect with people from all over the continent”. In this round, 40,000 travel passes will be up for grabs to celebrate 40 years of the Schengen Agreement, which laid the foundation of today’s border-free travel. Applications will remain open until 13 November. Those born between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2007 will be able to apply online at youth.europa.eu. Successful applicants will be able to travel for a period of minimum 1 day and up to 30 days starting on 1 March 2026. The initiative, launched in 2018, has distributed more than 400,000 passes in recent years and has received applications from over 1.6 million eighteen-year-olds.
