Spain: Paul VI Foundation, seminar on the Way of Saint James. “Path for the construction of European identity”

The Way of St James “is one of the most symbolic places of Christianity in Spain and Europe. Along its paths, pilgrims experience a constant encounter that brings together history, nature and spirituality”. This is according to a communique announcing the new edition of the Integral Ecology Seminar jointly organised by the Paul VI Foundation and the Spanish Bishops’ Conference. The seminar, entitled “the Way of St James: A Cultural, Natural and Spiritual Path for the Construction of European Identity”, will take place in three sessions scheduled for today, Monday 22 September, next Monday, 29 September, and Wednesday 1 October. The pilgrimage to the Apostle St James has “always been a spiritual, cultural, social, ecological, economic and political project, aimed at spreading the values of Christian humanism, the seed of European unity. Now, immersed as we are in a multidimensional global crisis, these values are more necessary than ever, and for this reason, the seminar will feature experts in various fields such as economics, religious tourism, bioethics, and theology”. The programme will be divided into three general sections: The “Way of St James as an economic and eco-social project” (22 September – online); as a “Project of unity and integral human development” (29 September – online); and “Europe’s spiritual identity and values” (1 October – in presence). Each day will feature two sessions that cover the relevant topic in detail. The final session will be held by Msgr. Francisco José Prieto Fernández, Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, on the theme “The Way of Saint James: A way of hope for Europe”.
