Approximately 700 pilgrims from various dioceses and eparchies of the Catholic Church in Romania will take part in the Jubilee of Youth that will take place from 28 July to 3 August, according to a statement from the Romanian Bishops’ Conference (CER). The groups of adolescents and young people will be accompanied by fifteen consecrated persons, thirty priests and three bishops. On the morning of Thursday, 31 July, the Romanian pilgrims will walk together through the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica. In addition, a Latin-rite Mass will be celebrated for them at the Basilica of San Vitale on 30 July, followed by a Byzantine-rite Mass at the Church of Saint Athanasius on 1 August. In a message, Mgr Virgil Bercea, Greek Catholic Bishop of Oradea and President of the CER Commission for Young People, reminded young people that “Rome is not just a destination, but a starting point”. “Do not be afraid to let yourselves be transformed, to ask questions, to dream with courage, and to be light for others”, the bishop added. Even if some young people have already taken part in national or world gatherings, this is the first time they are participating in a Jubilee. “I go to Rome with a heart full of hope and enthusiasm”, 21-year-old Diana Craciun, from the Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla, told SIR news agency. “It will be a unique experience, together with young people from all over the world. I look forward to the meeting with Pope Leo, the pilgrimage to the Holy Door, the chance of venerating the relics of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati at the Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva. And I cannot wait to discover the city of Rome, so rich in history and spirituality, and to be inspired by the beauty of its churches and Christian heritage”.
