“The European Commission is stepping up its support to the Palestinian people by allocating a total of €202 million” to the UN Agency UNRWA and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) “under the Comprehensive and Multiannual Programme for Palestine’s Recovery and Resilience”. As announced in a statement, €150 million have been allocated to support the PNA “in ensuring the delivery of key public services, including the payment of salaries of teachers, civil servants and healthcare workers”. The financial support is linked to the implementation of the reform agenda. UNRWA received a contribution of €52 million to support the delivery of critical services, including education, primary healthcare and relief assistance to Palestinian refugees across the Gaza Strip, West Bank and hosting countries such as Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, said: “Our support to the Palestinian people remains steadfast. With this disbursement, we reaffirm our unwavering political and financial commitment”. The EU “is deeply concerned about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the worsening conditions in the West Bank. We remain firmly committed to a just and lasting peace, grounded in a negotiated two-state solution”.
