Scotland: Bishops’ Conference, Mgr Keenan is the new President. Plenary focussing on assisted suicide, Middle East and Caritas activities

The Scottish Bishops’ Conference has elected its new President, Vice-President and Secretary. Indeed, Bishop John Keenan of Paisley, Bishop Brian McGee of Argyll and Bishop Andrew McKenzie of Dunkeld were respectively chosen for these positions at the recent Plenary meeting in Coatbridge. Among the topics addressed were the campaign to legalise assisted suicide in the UK, the war in the Middle East and the reception of migrants. The Bishops’ Conference then heard from Lorraine Currie, director of the Scottish charity SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund), who talked about the work carried out in Global South countries this year. A final topic discussed was school education.
