European elections: Duch (EU Parliament), “democracy is a collective responsibility”. 370 million eligible voters “Democracy is a collective responsibility – not towards a political idea or a specific cause – but towards each other”. The European Parliament’s spokesman and communication director, Jaume Duch, used far-reaching words to launch the second phase of the institutional campaign aimed at encouraging citizens to vote on 6-9 June. At an event held in Brussels today, the European Parliament, through its Communication Service, presented a series of tools and events in the run-up to the elections. “We are more united in European democracy than we might think: across nations, political sensitivities and across generations. In our polarised times – Mr Duch said –, this is easy to forget and our campaign is made to remind us of what unites us”. The campaign insists on the importance of voting to safeguard democracy. It is no coincidence that the chosen and advertised slogan is “Use Your Vote. Or others will decide for you”. Mr Duch recalled that there are 370 million eligible voters, of whom 26 million will vote for the first time.Valentina Bombelli
