The Summer School 2026, organised by the Spanish Episcopal Conference in partnership with the Paul VI Foundation and the Pontifical University of Salamanca, is going on now, until tomorrow, Thursday 9^th July. The course, called “Democracy in decline. An opportunity for a geopolitics in service of humans”, is taking place in the premises of the Paul VI Foundation, in Madrid. If you look at the programme of the educational event, the subjects that stand out the most are the challenges of democracies and opportunities for renewal, the contribution of the social doctrine of the Church to the common good, social justice, moral decline, populism, as well as the importance of spirituality and the current scenario of the digital world. At the opening ceremony for the educational days, the Secretary-General of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), mgr. García Magán, stated that the Summer School wants to be an “opportunity for dialogue with civil society and a contribution to the common good of society”. Guest speakers at the educational days included the Apostolic Nuncio to Spain, mgr. Piero Pioppo, who was in charge of exploring “moral consensus as a foundation of a democratic society”, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Iberian Government, José Manuel Albares, who will take part in the closing ceremony of the Summer School tomorrow, Thursday 9^th July, along with the President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, mgr. Luis Argüello.
