“Pray that all Christians may once again be a single family, in accordance with the will of God: ‘so that they may all be one’”. The Pope made this appeal before greeting the Italian-speaking faithful at the end of his Wednesday Audience. “Ecumenism is not something optional”, he added off the cuff: “Next Friday, the Vespers in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls will kick start the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity on the theme: ‘Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue’”, Pope Francis recalled: “The goal – he explained – is to develop a common and consistent witness that promotes true justice and support for the weakest through responses that are concrete, appropriate and effective”. The Pope also mentioned the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in his greetings to the Portuguese-speaking faithful: “In these days – he remarked – let us intensify our prayer and penance, to hasten the day when the Lord’s desire is completely fulfilled: ‘Abbà… ut unum sint – that they may all be one’”. Finally, as he greeted the English-speaking pilgrims, the Pope addressed a “special greeting” to the students of the Bossey Ecumenical Institute.
