“Joy and gratitude” for the news of Pope Francis’ visit to Romania from 31 May to 2 June – these feelings were expressed by the bishops of the country, who invited “the faithful and all men and women of good will to unite in prayer and ask that this event may bear abundant fruits in the spiritual life of Christians for the good and unity of the whole Romanian society”. “May the presence of the Successor of Saint Peter inspire Romania to pursue all that is good and valuable for the country and the common good. We can rediscover the desire for dialogue between Christian Churches based on the respect for others, inspiring Christians to join forces in the promotion of life and the natural values of Creation entrusted to us by God”, Card. Lucian Mureșan, major archbishop of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church united with Rome and president of the Romanian Bishops’ Conference, said in a message. Pope Francis is the second Pontiff to visit Romania after Saint John Paul II in May 1999.
