“Protect life at all costs!”: this is the appeal that the Presidency of the Council of Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE) has launched today for peace in the Holy Land, to condemn “yet another explosion of hatred and violence, which is once again staining the Holy Land with blood” in these days. In a short statement signed by Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and CCEE President, and by the CCEE’s two Vice-Presidents, Card. Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, and Mgr. Stanisław Gądecki, Archbishop of Poznań, the CCEE Presidency witnesses “the closeness of the European Church and welcomes the invitation of the Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Mgr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, for a time of prayer for peace in the Holy Land”. In this sense, the statement reads, “the Presidency of CCEE, to express with conviction that peace and human life are undeniable goods and above all national and international interests, invites the communities and individuals, in Europe, too, to join the prayer of the Church of Jerusalem, through a time of meditation and prayer for peace and the defense of life at any cost, on Saturday, May 19, the eve of Pentecost”.
