Hostage-taking in French supermarket: French Bishops, “unacceptable and inadmissible”

“Once again violence has hit our country. Whatever its origin, it is unacceptable and inadmissible”. Mgr. Olivier Ribadeau Dumas, spokesman and secretary general of the French Bishops, wrote this in a tweet, commenting on what is happening in Trèbes (Aude Department), where a gunman has barricaded himself in a supermarket. According to Agence Presse, the man reportedly pledged allegiance to Daesh, and this was also confirmed by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, who said: “All the information suggests that this is a terrorist attack”. At least two people are reported dead and one injured among the security forces. “We think and pray for the victims”, Mgr. Ribadeau Dumas wrote, adding: “We commend the action of those who are responsible for our safety”. The man is reportedly still barricaded in the supermarket. The police have found his car.
