“The Malta Catholic Youth Network (MCYN) upholds that life must be protected from conception to natural death. The Maltese society must remember that abortion is a process that goes against this basic principle and right to life”. The Youth Commission of the Diocese of Malta stressed this while also decrying the fact that when the National Youth Parliament met to discuss abortion on 13 September 2017, youth organizations opposed to abortion “were not represented at that session”: the “subject of abortion should not be a taboo, but spoken of in the light of truth”, a statement reads. The Network also invites the Maltese institutions to “draw up educational programs to help young men and women understand the deep consequences of abortion” which “highlight the importance of good sexual health, based not only on the physical aspect, but also on the emotional, psychological, spiritual and moral aspects of sexuality”. Lastly, an appeal to young people “not to abandon” their peers who “are struggling with the idea of abortion”, but to guide, help and support women or couples who have already experienced an abortion, and to inform all those who still do not know about the “gravity of abortion”.
