“The Catholic Bishops of the Netherlands express their solidarity with the populations of the Caribbean islands, hit by Hurricane Irma. Photos of the devastation caused by the hurricane and above all the huge damage that fell on St Martin are impressive”, they posted on the website of the Dutch Bishops, who send an “urgent appeal” for help. “The Bishops ask to pray for the victims and give generously”, it goes on. Above all, the Bishops call people to support some humanitarian organisations that have put in place emergency measures. Today is the national day for mobilisation, called “The Netherlands help St Martin”. The Bishops Foundation “Vastenaktie”, that traditionally coordinates the Advent and Lent fund-raising campaigns, also started raising funds in partnership with Cordaid.
