The Dominicans of Vienna are launching a new pastoral project: with the name “Schola Cordis” (“School of the Heart”), from September 2016 to April 2017, the friars invite to their monastery anyone who may be “willing to deal with cultural stimuli in a place of spirituality, prayer and meditation”. The programme includes over 30 events, overall. According to the provincial, father Thomas Gabriel Brogl, the “Schola Cordis” is “an initiative that will enable people to understand their Christian spirituality better”. The “School of the Heart” will start on Friday 9th September with a concert of Gregorian chants by Wiener Choralschola in the cloister. The first reflections will take place on Friday 16th September with “Mystery Night”: events include teaching dancing as prayer and rediscovering the ancient Dominican practice of bodily prayer, which is all but forgotten now. An ancient 13th-century manuscript will tell in pictures about “St Dominic’s ways of praying, in which mind and body are joined in their ascent to God”, as written in the presentation of “Schola Cordis”. The “Schola Cordis” events are part of the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of St Dominic’s Order of Preachers.
