Slovakia: pro-life Ngos against prolongation of registration of abortion pills

(Bratislava) – Slovak civil associations Forum for Life and Catholic Women´s Movement appeal to state authorities to protect women from the illegal on-line sale of abortion pills. The official registration of two types of these pills in Slovakia has recently run out, and over the past three years, their producers have not been able to launch the sale of Medabon and Mifegyne in the country, due to the protest of pro-life NGOs and their objection that the distribution of the preparations is not compatible with Slovak law. “We consider this to be a success and we do not see any reason for prolonging the registration of both pills”, says pharmacist Dr Maria Raucinova, stressing that the legalization of these preparations may have “a dramatic impact on the life and health of women, especially those who are very young and not very well informed”. Furthermore, according to Maria Demeterova, president of Catholic Women´s Movement in Slovakia, the decreasing interest of Slovak women in induced abortion in the past eight years shows that there is no need to supply the medical market in the country with other means of abortion.
