EU Parliament: conference and exhibition on the life of Croatian Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac

(Brussels) A conference and an exhibition will be hosted by the European Parliament in Brussels to remember and present the complex figure of Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac (1898-1960), Archbishop of Zagreb from 1937 until his death. Beatified by John Paul II in 1998, he is considered to be a martyr of Communism and a historic leader of the Croatian Church. The exhibition – organised by MEP Marijana Petir – with photos and documents giving an insight into the life and work of the Catholic cardinal will be unveiled at the premises of the European Parliament in Brussels at 6.30pm today. Mgr. Ivan Šaško, Auxiliary Bishop of Zagreb, will also attend the event. The exhibition is curated by Mgr. Nedjeljko Pintarić, Director of the Cultural Heritage Office of the Croatian Diocese. Keynote speakers at the conference scheduled for tomorrow, 15 June, will include historians Esther Gitman, Jure Krišto and Mario Kevo, as well as Mgr. Juraj Batelja, postulator for the cause of canonisation of Card. Stepinac.
