Scandinavian Bishops: Msgr. Kozon (Copenhagen), “Amoris Laetitia is an important step on the family evangelisation path”

The spring plenary assembly (4-8 April) of the six bishops of Scandinavian countries came to an end in Klosterneuburg, Austria, today. According to the President of the bishops’ conference, bishop of Copenhagen Czeslav Kozon, “Amoris Lætitia is an important step on the path to the evangelisation of the family, exactly in our northern countries”, says the note made known at the end of the works. The bishop is happy because “the Pope does not avoid burning and much-debated issues”; on the other hand, “he faces them with an open mind, and with the attitude of the real pastor”. “The Pope is faithful to marriage as the only valid link of man and woman; it is a very important declaration for Northern countries, above all”, says Kozon. However, the letter is “a real opportunity for dialogue with the values and attitudes of the Catholic Church”. Now the bishops “will bring this letter of the Pope close to believers, focussing on it, and putting it into practice together with them”. However, one of the main points in the letter is the visit of the Pope to Lund, Sweden, on 31 October 2016. A celebration for the ecumenical commemoration of the Reform will actually take place in Lund. The celebration in the Malmoe arena will be broadcast by TV. Before that, the bishops will publish a letter, “an appraisal of ecumenical relations, and a call for reflection and repentance for the wound of division”.
