Poland: 1050th anniversary of Christianisation. Card. Parolin, “Polish Church, bulwark of faith and charity in Europe”

“The Polish Church is aware of the new waves that unfailingly call us to find proper ways to be the ‘salt and light’ of the earth and the fire that warms the hearts and attracts people to the announcement of salvation”: this was stated in Poznan, Poland, this morning, by the Vatican State Secretary, cardinal Pietro Parolin, as he greeted the Polish bishops, who are in their plenary session to celebrate the 1050th anniversary of the Christianisation of the country. The Vatican ambassador for the celebrations of the historical anniversary pointed out that “faithfulness to God, to the Gospel and to the Holy See has attracted the respect and esteem of other nations, making the Polish Church a bulwark of Christian faith and charity and the light in the darkness that has enshrouded Europe so many times”. Yesterday in the late afternoon, the Vatican State Secretary, as he attended High Mass in Gniezno, the oldest capital of Christian Poland, sent all the Polish Church the regards of Pope Francis, “who is here in spirit” for the celebrations and who will come to Poland in late July for the World Youth Day.
