CONSECRATED LIFE: MGR. MASSAFRA (CCEE), "PAINFUL STORIES" IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BISHOPS AND CHARISMS (2)” “

"Unfortunately – Mgr. Massafra added – this is not always the case, as we see in many painful stories". To illustrate this point, the Bishop drew a comparison with the parent/children relationships which can also be disastrous when "children are forced to become what their parents want them to be; when, rather than encouraging and directing the resources of each, parents force children into behaviours and choices which, instead, destroy the gift God gave them". This model also mirrors the relationship of a bishop with the consecrated life, but – Mgr. Massafra added – "there is little or no benefit in seeking a scapegoat: we would play the wicked game, which seems to be so widespread in the media, and now also in the Church, of pointing an accusing finger", without realising that this does not solve our problems. "This only distracts the public’s attention and, in the Church, the faithful’s attention from the true evangelical values of dialogue, of caring for our brother, for those who have erred, for the wounded, in a spirit of communion that promotes forgiveness. Only forgiveness can heal the wounds, but if we are struggling with it, then we may have forgotten the evangelical truth that God is communion". ” “
