HOLY SEE: NOTE ON SUPPORT TO CHRISTIANS AND OTHER COMMUNITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST (3)

"The idea is to create not a political position but a humanitarian awareness of the respect of the rights of the victims of violence, especially those of Christians, in the Middle Eastern region. Because, unless something is done for them – the chance their rights as citizens are respected, that they may go back to their homes: therefore the refugees’ right to go back –, there is a serious danger that the communities, already down to a minimum after over one century of unceasing bleeding, may completely disappear and that the Middle East, the region where Jesus was born, where Christianity began to develop, may become a region of the world deprived of the testimony and presence of Christians". Hence the hope that "Governments, all civic and religious leaders in the Middle East, will join us in addressing this alarming situation by building together a culture of peaceful coexistence": In our globalized world, pluralism is an enrichment", the statement ended. "A future without the different communities in the Middle East will run a high risk of new forms of violence, exclusion, and the absence of peace and development".” “
