“The Face of Mercy” is the title of the religious book fair that will be held at the Parish of “Christ the King” in Belgrade, Serbia, on 17-21 December in the run-up to Christmas. The event, which traditionally brings together Catholics and Orthodox, will have an ecumenical and interreligious dimension this year, in line with the spirit of the Jubilee. In the evening of 20 December, there will be a roundtable on “The Year of Mercy and interreligious dialogue in our times”, moderated by Mgr. Stanislav Hocevar, Archbishop of Belgrade, with the participation of experts on Islam and Judaism. On 19 December, Russian stories on the topic of ecumenism will be read out. “We want to convey a message of tolerance”, Robert Zajac, one of the organisers, told SIR, “we want to show the divine values and elements of truth common to the great religions, and also stress the concept of mercy”. Objects on sale at the Christmas market include the new liturgical calendar, a special edition featuring both the Catholic and Orthodox calendars. “It is very useful for the Balkans, with a large Orthodox majority”, Zajac remarked, adding that “thousands of copies are ordered every year, not just in Serbia, but also in Bosnia”.
