TURKEY: PADOVA, MGR. PAOLO BIZZETI, APOSTOLIC VICAR FOR ANATOLIA, ORDAINED YESTERDAY
Jesuit father Monsignor Paolo Bizzeti, bishop of Tabe and apostolic vicar for Anatolia, was ordained bishop yesterday in the basilica of St Giustina in Padova, which guards the remains of Luke the evangelist, near the Antonianum, of which he had been rector since 2007, after serving in Bologna for many years. The ordination ceremony was officiated by archbishop Cyril Vasil‘, secretary of the Congregation for Eastern Churches, and co-celebrated by monsignor Claudio Cipolla, bishop of Padova, the archbishop of Ravenna-Cervia, monsignor Lorenzo Ghizzoni, monsignor Boghos Levon Zekiyan, Armenian Catholic archbishop of Istanbul and president of the Turkish Bishops Conference, and Grigoryos Melki Ürek, Syrian Orthodox metropolitan bishop of Adyaman (Turkey). Ordained bishop by Pope Francis on 14t August this year, on 29th November monsignor Bizzeti will enter Iskenderun, filling a 5-year gap: the place has been vacant since 2010, when monsignor Luigi Padovese was tragically murdered. “Don’t be afraid of being few, of having few means, of being misunderstood, of being clay pots – the new bishop urged – : look for the Lord’s face, the rest will come. Look for it in the Gospel and in your stories. Throw away any façade Christianity”.
