EU: JUNCKER (EU COMMISSION) FACING THE POLITICAL GROUPS IN THE EU PARLIAMENT

(Sir Europe – Brussels) – Economic growth and spending review, relations between EU institutions and EU citizens, migration and borders, welfare, health, transatlantic treaty, extension of borders, protection of the environment, initiatives in support of less developed regions, initiatives for young people: there are a lots of items that, today and tomorrow, the political groups will ask about to Jean-Claude Juncker, nominated for the presidency of the EU Commission, who, having been nominated by the EU Council, must now receive the European Parliament’s approval on 15th July. Meetings with the political groups that sit in the European Parliament have been scheduled in Brussels: Juncker’s agenda includes meetings with – in this order – Socialists and Democrats, Liberal Democrats, Conservatives, Green Party, Unitarian Left, People’s Party, Efdd (Euro-sceptics). Voting will take place during next week’s plenary session in Strasbourg, followed by a summit with the heads of State and Government in Brussels the day after. If the Luxembourg-born politician is voted for by the majority of 376 MEPs, then in consultation with the member states he must submit a list of nominees for Commissioners (one per country). The nominated Commissioners will be heard by the European Parliament in September; finally, the floor will vote on the members by the end of October, so that they can take office on 1st November.” “
