POPE FRANCIS: AUDIENCE, "IT IS NOT EASY" TO BE A BISHOP

"It is not easy" to be a bishop: Pope Francis said this to about 15,000 faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square for today’s General Audience, which was a reflection on Episcopal Ministry. "We need bishops", Pope Francis began, speaking off-the-cuff. "We heard what the Apostle Paul says to Bishop Titus", the Pope recalled, referring to today’s reading: "We need bishops, and it is not easy because we are all sinners, but we entrust ourselves to your prayers so that we may be closer to the things that the Apostle Paul says to all bishops". "Will you pray for us?", the Pope asked, continuing his extempore dialogue with the faithful. "It is Christ Himself – Francis recalled – who makes Himself present in the bishop, assisted by priests and deacons, and who continues to take care of His Church, giving her protection and guidance".
