The meeting will last until 26 October on the theme "The role and mission of the Eastern Churches in Europe today". Shevchuk recalled the "happy coincidence of the event" that is taking place in Ukraine on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the legalisation of the Greek Catholic Church in the country. The following speaker was Mgr. Thomas Edward Gullickson, Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, who – according to a statement from CCEE – wanted to stress that "the Pope and I, his representative, are convinced that the role of Eastern Bishops in the Catholic world in particular needs to be acknowledged and confirmed".
